Primary Responsibilities & Attitude
 
The Director, Risk & Compliance will be an integral part of our team. Reporting directly to the CCO/CRO, the Director will be responsible for the drafting of policies & procedures, QC/QA oversight of business lines, implementing/enhancing processes, taking the lead on internal/external audits, and other duties as required. Our business is continually evolving, and you will help us shape its growth. We’re looking for someone who is known for their work ethic, takes initiative, and considers themselves to be entrepreneurial, innovative, and likes a challenge.

You are responsible for:

1.  Managing the AML Program
  • Provide oversight and guidance for the AML program
  • Conduct quality assurance on AML functions
  • Draft updates to AML policies & procedures
  • Review and ensure all reporting requirements are fulfilled and completed in a timely manner
 
2.  Monitoring & Testing Activities
  • Lead and continuously improve Monitoring & Testing Activity program and documentation
  • Perform Monitoring & Testing Activities as scheduled and input results into Odyssey’s Risk Intelligence Platform in a timely manner
  • Support development and maintenance of metrics collection and reporting
  • Demonstrate a strong awareness of internal controls assertions and maintain a high standard of documentation
 
3.  Risk & Compliance
  • Create and review Risk & Compliance policy documentation 
  • Provide oversight and guidance for Business Unit policies and procedures, training materials and other communications as required due to new or changing laws and regulations, and conduct periodic reviews to ensure they remain current
  • Provide proactive and practical regulatory advice to managers and support functions 
  • Interpret audit, risk and compliance requirements for various departments and identify/ escalate potential concerns to the CCO/CRO
 
4.  Fraud
  • Review and assess potential fraud activity and developing fraud detection tools 
 
5.  Privacy
  • Assess, investigate (where required) potential privacy incident concerns and escalate (where appropriate) in a timely manner
  • Where required, complete Privacy Impact Assessment and recommend steps for resolution, including policy documentation or procedural improvements
 
6.  Lost Holder Searches / Unclaimed Property
  • Provide oversight and guidance for Lost Holder Searches / Unclaimed Property program and policy documentation
  • Review provincial Lost Holder Searches / Unclaimed Property reports prior to submission
 
7.  Related Parties
  • Manage related parties’ information and process policy documentation
 
8.  Team Activities
  • Support regulatory projects, audits, and initiatives, as required
  • Work with the CCO/CRO and other Management to embed a risk-based culture and compliance awareness at Odyssey
  • Provide support, education, and training to develop the other compliance team members
  • Perform periodic check-ins to ensure the compliance team’s responsibilities are effectively discharged
  • Works collaboratively to support team goals

9.    Operational Risk
  • Reviewing and assisting in the reporting of Errors & Omissions
  • Developing policies and procedures to help mitigate operational risk
  • Assessing Odyssey’s current operational risk controls and identifying any potential gaps
  • Implementing a risk control plan to proactively implement controls based on emerging operational risk trends
 
10. Other job duties, as required
 
Skills and Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in a relevant field relating to Risk, Regulatory Compliance, and AML.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in regulations and expectations regarding OSFI, FINTRAC, FCAC, SEC, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Demonstrated internal controls knowledge and experience
  • Critical thinking and ability to see the ‘big picture’
  • Strong documentation, communication, analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a strong work ethic
  • Policy & Procedure drafting as well as implementation experience
  • Experience being in an oversight function conducting QA/QC and being able to give valuable feedback and update processes to a successful standard
  • Experience in documenting processes, systems, and controls
  • Sound working knowledge of COSO integrated framework of internal controls, generally accepted auditing standards, and accounting principles
  • Experience working in a shared service environment, ideally within a securities-based environment
  • Project management skillset including organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
