Primary Responsibilities & Attitude
 
We’re looking for a Senior Controller, Finance, to join our growing company, Odyssey Trust! Our ideal candidate is someone who has strong technical skills, experience managing a team and strong leadership skills. The candidate will be known for their work ethic and “can do” attitude and considers themselves to be a team player. We're especially excited about someone who champions process transformation and knows how to leverage technology to modernize the way finance teams operate.

On a day-to-day basis you will be responsible for supporting our VP Finance and Executive and working alongside the Finance Team. You will be responsible for the oversight of all accounting, auditing and finance compliance functions for the organization, leading the accounting team and driving technology and process transformation across the finance function.
 
Key Accountabilities

  • Lead process transformation initiatives, identifying opportunities to streamline and automate accounting workflows through the strategic use of technology
  • Oversee all accounting and auditing for the organization, including financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing & revenue recognition, finance related compliance and technical accounting judgements
  • Oversight of internal controls, the annual external audit, and regulatory filings (OSFI, Provincial, and State regulators)
  • Review month-end/quarter-end/year-end financial statements and present findings at monthly financial review meetings with the VP Finance
  • Oversee the annual budget process, business unit reporting, variance analysis and commentary, and KPI dashboards
  • Prepare and oversee all Board and Management reporting materials and attend regular Management Meetings
  • Own ERP & Finance systems, including evaluating and implementing technology solutions that improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability across the finance function
  • Managing client interest statement preparation and distribution
  • Management of the accounting team including hiring and development, leading a team of 7
  • Other ad-hoc tasks and special projects, as required
 
Skills and Experience
 
·       CPA designation required
·       7+ years’ experience in senior accounting roles, managing a team
·       Strong leadership and communication skills, with a great attitude and work ethic
·       Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and multi-task within tight deadlines
·       Solutions-based attitude, answering inquiries with “yes, I can do that for you” or “let me find a way to make this happen”
·       Experience with NetSuite is an asset
·       Experience with financial systems implementation or process automation and familiarity with business intelligence or financial reporting tools is an asset
·       Strong proficiency with Office 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and other desktop applications
